Powder snow avalanches
In collaboration with IRSTEA Grenoble (F. Naaim) and the State University of Colorado (K. Venayagamoorthy) we study gravity flushing on a steep slope. The experimental part of the study is (...)

The existence of a density gradient can significantly affect boundary layer processes, for example, density currents in the ocean due to excess salinity or katabatic winds in the atmosphere generated by radiative heat flux at the earth surface. The research activities in the MEIGE team on this topic focus on the development of models for turbulent mixing processes based on joint approaches of in-situ measurements, laboratory experiments and numerical simulations in idealized and realistic situations.

Gravity currents are abundant in the geophysical context. They can develop over short/long distances before reaching continental slopes. Most laboratory experiments considered gravity currents on (...)
